Seat Washer Replacement

If you have purchased the Prier C-434KT-802 Seat Washer Kit, use the following instructions, if you have purchased the entire stem, continue to Stem Replacement section.

Remove existing “bullet type” seat washer and screw.

Place a small amount of Loctite on the threads of the new screw.

When inserting the new seat washer, tighten the stainless steel screw until the “bullet type” seat washer begins to distort, than loosen 1/4 turn.

Allow Loctite to dry for at least 15 minutes before reinstalling stem into hydrant.

Reinstall Stem, using the Stem Replacement instructions that follow.

Stem Replacement

Stem Replacement on the C-434 & C-534 Series Hydrants is a relatively straightforward process. For proper operation, it is important that the U-Cup Seal Washer or O-Ring is not torn on installation. The Prier C-434KT-802 Kit contains both a U-Cup Seal Washer and O-Ring seal, you will only use the item that matches the seal on the hydrant stem you are repairing.

For U-Cup Replacement

Check the stem to confirm that the u-cup is in good condition, if the U-Cup Seal Washer or the Seat Washer are not torn or serrated. If either is torn, replace the items using a Prier C-434KT-802 Seat Washer Replacement Kit.

Using a plumbers grease or some type of FDA Approved grease, lubricate the Seat Washer and the U-Cup Seal Washer. This will assist in insertion into the Hydrant.

Use a small piece of 3/4” copper to compress the U-Cup Seal Washer and with the washer compressed, gently insert the stem into the hydrant.The 3/4” copper piece you are using will mate with the opening for the stem.

Once the stem is inserted fully, use the operating Key or Handle to thread the stem into the body until it seats.

Replace the packing washer, packing nut and handle.

For O-Ring Replacement

Using a plumbers grease or some type of FDA Approved grease, lubricate the Seat Washer and the O-Ring Seal Washer. This will assist in insertion into the Hydrant

Once the stem is inserted fully, use the operating Key or Handle to thread the stem into the body until it seats.

Replace the packing washer, packing nut and handle.
