Recently PRIER has built a brand new machining facility to help improve the process and the products manufactured onsite, and we are looking for an expert machinist to assist on all levels.

The CNC Swiss Machinist holds an important role for the success of PRIER Products, Inc. It is imperative that the individual upholds the values of PRIER and is able to set-up, operate, and maintain multiple Tsugami Swiss turning centers with Fanuc controls. The machinist must be intelligent and have strong critical thinking and problem solving skills. PRIER strives to be world-class in all aspects of manufacturing, which is why the Swiss-turning centers are state of the art machines (purchased within the last 12 months). The CNC Swiss Machinist must be successful in order for PRIER to realize a world-class manufacturing environment.

Job Description: CNC Swiss Machinist

Job Summary:

The CNC Swiss Machinist is responsible for all aspects of machining from the receipt of the bar stock through the cleaning and inventorying of the finished, machined part and everything in-between. This position will setup and operate four separate Tsugami Swiss-turning centers that machine high volume brass component inventory for production. The machinist is responsible for maximizing efficiency and machine uptime while maintaining tight tolerances according to the specified drawing.


Multiple programs have already been created; however, the ability to optimize costs through program improvements and to create new programs for additional parts is preferred. This position is also responsible for managing scrap through oil extraction of the chips, as well as cleaning of the finished, machined inventory through the use of a parts washer. The goal of the CNC Swiss Machinist is to optimize PRIER’s machining process through maximum machine time of parts made within specification, the most efficient and effective use of tools and consumable supplies, and the ability to maintain or improve all other contributing factors of the entire machining process (e.g. extracting oil, cleaning parts, keeping the entire area pristine). Overall, this position will work with PRIER to accomplish the necessary tasks to continuously improve the manufacturing department. 


Order, receive, inventory, and manage raw bar stock

Deburr and load brass rod into bar feeders

Setup, operate, and maintain Tsugami Swiss turning machines (i.e. 4 total machines, including 2 BO325’s, 1 BO206, and 1 BO205)

Read and interpret drawings in order to perform quality control checks to ensure machined parts are within specification

Troubleshoot and solve maintenance issues and perform scheduled preventative maintenance on Swiss and associated machining equipment

Control brass chip inventory, including the extraction of oil from the chips through centrifuge equipment

Manage brass chip storage and schedule appropriate scrap pickup, including loading and verification of brass scrap buy back

Manage and control finished/machined component inventory, including the cleaning and collection of parts (note: finished parts are soldered to brass, so all oil must be removed and parts must be dry)

Manage tool life, make recommendations for improvements, and inventory appropriate levels of tooling holders and inserts to minimize downtime

Maintain all other supplies, including necessary cutting fluid, oils, rags, etc.

Make recommendations to improve the overall machining process in order to achieve 24/7 operation of equipment at 85% efficiency or better

Keep area (i.e. machines, floor, bins, etc.) safe, clean, and organized

2 years of proven experience operating CNC equipment

Demonstration of basic machining skills and principles either observed in the shop or evaluated by skills assessments

Understanding of tool paths and able to use of G and M codes

Ability to read drawings and experience with precision metrology instruments (e.g. micrometers, dial or digital calipers, etc.)

Advanced math skills in geometry and algebra

Able to manage multiple projects/duties simultaneously and solve problems efficiently and effectively

Able to deal with complexity, present technical information accurately, and make suggestions based upon results

Excellent history of attendance and punctuality

Ability to train others and a passion for continuous improvement

Able to stand for the majority of the shift and lift up to 50lbs

Preferred Requirements:

Multiple years of Swiss-style machining experience, preferably with Tsugami CNC’s (i.e. Fanuc controls)

Able to take a component drawing, write the program to produce a qualified part, order the appropriate tooling, and setup the machine

Experience machining high production brass parts with oil based coolant

Experience with oil extraction from scrap/chips/shavings

Experience cleaning mass produced parts with a parts washer

Able perform and complete machine setups, operation, troubleshooting, and programming independently

Able to minimize overall cost through optimal cycle time and tooling selection

Knowledge of lean manufacturing and quality concepts and experience implementing those concepts into processes
